today Mindy and I jet off to East Coast for some blading fun to unwind. We had a great meal at Sushi Tei and we spent an hour thereafter on the blades. The weather was pretty hot and humid but I was pretty amazed because as amateurs we were pretty fast and steady on the wheels.
Anyway Mindy was incredibly kind and supportive and she came along to do my first tattoo with me. Thinking back, I would probably chicken out if she wasn't there nudging me forward to it. You know it's just like getting a tattoo is one of the things I been thinking about for ages. It's one of those things perhaps like picking up driving, a language, bungee jump, pierce your ears and all. I just have that list and I want to be able to do them because I live life only just once.
So I woke up today and suddenly it came to mind that "Okay today is going to be the day, no more chicken out, no more excuses, the list just got to get smaller, or else I am gonna live with regrets." And by this I don't mean that everyone must get a tattoo or have a crazy to do list before you die. It's just me, it's just June ok. So anyway the last time I wanted to get it was in 2007 Christmas Eve, because it was the first time I led on Expo and I was just so overwhelmed by God's promise because I saw that image of people before. My parents were in the service and it was just a very significant moment and day for me. But I didn't stick to that thought.
I am not a big fan on symbols and colors but I dig phrases and quotes which you would know by now. I came across this Latin quote which means you must not forget your first love. It struck a chord in me and it's definitely something I would want to always remind myself. But here's my take on foreign language and translations.
So anyway to cut the story short, I decided to go with "Amor Vincit Omnia" which means Love Conquers All. It speaks alot to me because we all need to make a decision to love every now and then but Love really do conquers all at the end of the day. So I was nervous, extremely chatty, crazy, at the shop and it was like primary 6 BCG for me all over again. I just wanted to run out of there and chicken out.
The tattoo artists there were incredibly professional and good. It was a guest artist by the name of Toge which did my tattoo and it was such a good time talking to him and hearing his thoughts and take on this profession he chose. I just feel God is so creative and He has given us so much for us to enjoy and share with one another, that is why people need to come to the knowledge that all has came from Him and all must be given back to Him.
So I did it. The phrase Amor Vincit Omnia meaning "Love Conquers All", is a painting by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Basically it's a picture of the Roman Cupid, wearing dark eagle wings, half-sitting on or perhaps climbing down from what appears to be a table. Scattered around are the emblems of all human endeavours – violin and lute, armour, coronet, square and compasses, pen and manuscript, bay leaves, and an astral globe, tangled and trampled under Cupid’s foot. The painting illustrates the line from Virgil's Eclogues X.69, Omnia vincit amor et nos cedamus amori ("Love conquers all; let us all yield to love!").
